I really want to start blogging again. It may seem like a New Year’s resolution, and maybe it is. But the truth is: I resolved to do this at least a month ago. So I don’t really think it counts.
So, what’s been holding me up?
This last month or so, I can’t really say. Things, I guess. Obviously I did some family stuff during the holidays and have generally been in a state of languor – one of the benefits of a winter break.
But beyond that…
My last blog was in October. That’s kind of ridiculous. I sometimes claim that I’m a writer, after all.
Of course, I have a number of excuses. None are really valid or maybe not even interesting, but if I’m going to start blogging again, I might as well write about them. I have to start somewhere.
My worst excuse is that Microsoft Word somehow locked me out of its blogging feature. “Locked out” probably isn’t the most accurate description; but it’s complicated and not worth explaining. Suffice it to say: it’s broke. So, I can’t directly post blogs from Word anymore – a minor inconvenience. (Copy and paste it is.)
My best excuse is that the grind of a 100-student semester is diametrically opposed to my other interests’ available hours. While that’s certainly problematic, it’s not a perfect excuse for ignoring things like this blog. I can fit it in; I’m sure – though history seems to disagree (particularly during the fall semester though).
The other, perhaps most pertinent, excuse is that my own draconian blogging rules get in my way. I have honestly ignored blogs in the past because it wasn’t a “blogging day.” And that’s silly, really. Oddly enough – as dedicated readers may recall – I installed those rules to inject consistency into my writing. It worked; now it doesn’t. So, I’m foregoing that rule and the others (i.e. the definitive “of the Week” features).
I’m also thinking I might post shorter blogs – though this isn’t proving that case. I’ve heard about this new thing called micro-blogging; you’ve probably heard of it. I’m not going that far (yet), but without rules, my blog may be rule-less. Be prepared.
And I may up the irreverence…
Quote of the Week (or the Month or the Quarter or Whatever):
“Some guy on the ‘net thinks I suck, and he should know; he’s got his own blog.”
