Super Tweets

A few notes that aren’t quite blogs but are too long to be Tweets:

Even though I promised to become a “presence” on Facebook again, I haven’t found much use for it. Twitter works much better for me, I suppose, because I care about what my Twitterverse says more than I care about what my friendverse says (at least as it’s represented on Facebook). I’m still trying though.

My favorite games from E3, not surprisingly, were games I was already excited about: Skyrim, Gears of War 3, and Mass Effect 3. All three are from franchises in which I’m fully invested. As far as “news” goes, Gears may have provided the most exciting story for me with the reveal of Horde 2.0, which isn’t a great name. (They should just call it “New Horde” like Nintendo did with New Controller.)

Of the big three game companies (Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft), I’d say Sony won E3. I’ve already written about Kinect’s … er, I mean Microsoft’s press conference. Gears 3 and Halo 4 were definitely big wins for the ole ‘Soft, but neither was a bald eagle-esque feather in the cap. Nintendo’s presser was confusing more than anything else. They showed a lot of big franchises and the Wii U, but the new console isn’t extremely exciting, especially – evidently – from an investor’s perspective. Sony brought a good mix of exclusive games and new hardware, which is always a solid goal. One caveat, Sony’s is the only press conference that I didn’t watch live because I was watching the MLB draft instead.

Speaking of, the Cardinals took a second baseman, which isn’t typically a good thing, from Hawaii named Kolten Wong. I was pretty disappointed about my team “snaggin’” a middle infielder with their first-round pick, but I’ve read a couple of articles meant to alleviate pain and worry by justifying their drafting strategy. The best case I’ve read (from FS Midwest’s Brian Walton) is that the Cardinals need, first and foremost, top of the lineup hitters, which became painfully obvious once I heard someone else say it (surprise!). Ryan Theriot’s great, but it has been a long time since the Cards had a legitimate franchise player near the top of the lineup, and there’s such a good pedigree (Lou Brock, Ozzie Smith, Willie McGee, Vince Coleman).

When LeBron’s play in big situations falters, it always seems to be coupled with rumors about sex with his women (last year: Delonte West and LeBron’s mom, this year: Rashard Lewis and Mrs. Bron). I wonder which comes first: do people start these rumors because LeBron is struggling, maybe to explain his bad play? Or is LeBron really checking out (as Deshawn Stevenson via Jim Rome suggests) because he’s demoralized by the truth behind the rumors? Silver lining: at least he’s hanging out with desirable women. Brass lining: he’s probably going to lose the NBA Finals (again).

Other Event(s) of the Week:

I told you it was a busy week.

UNC is playing in the super regionals of (before?) the College World Series right now, like right now as I type this.

Friends Derek and Paige are getting married tomorrow.

  1. Rashard Lewis lives in Houston during the off season apparently. I got to hear him deny the rumors. Maybe he was actually shacking up with Lebron and Lebron's butt hurt too much to be effective

  2. Ha. Matthew these are how rumors are started...hilarious rumors. Whatever was wrong with Lebron it killed his team's chance at their first title. At least he didn't get punked down by Dwayne Wade on national tv...oh wait...
